FOUNDATIONS
In 1979, the James E. Taylor High School
Choral Department was launched with an educational foundation of musical
and social excellence.
TODAY
Today, the choir continues to maintain a reputation of
distinction in music, scholarship, and integrity. The directors strive to create a safe learning
environment that combines hard work and dedication with
enjoyment and enthusiasm. Through the efforts of both
students and directors, THS choirs consistently earn UIL
Sweepstakes Awards and have twice performed as honor choirs
at music educators’ conventions: the 2000 Texas Music
Educators Association and 2001 American Choral Directors
Association Southwest Division.
AWARD WINNING ENSEMBLES
Our members perform in such ensembles as the
Men's Choir, Camerata, Concert Choir, Cantilena,
Expressions, Chorale, and Hand Bells. Students of all
ability, from beginner to advanced, find appropriate
challenges in one of nine performing groups. Additionally,
almost half of Mustang choir students participate in KISD’s
private voice lesson program. Taylor employs four
highly-qualified voice faculty members with decades of
performance experience.
YEARLY EVENTS
The yearly calendar includes such events as the Expressions
live band revue, Fall Premiere, Madrigal Dinners, Solo &
Ensemble Contest, Concert & Sight-Reading Contest,
a fine
arts department musical, THS Talent Show, Madrigal Festival,
All-State Choir auditions, and a trip to cities such as San
Francisco, Washington DC, San Antonio, and Dallas.
